Supp & Remedial Lessons

Reminder to all 4A children...there will be Supp/Remedial lessons starting from the 10th Sep 2012 for Term 4. Please note that on Monday your lesson will be from 1.45pm to 3.30pm and on Thursday it will be the same as Term 3 (2.15pm to 3.30pm). I there is any cancellation, I will inform you via a form and through the blog.  Thank you. See you all tomorrow.

7th September - Problem no. 45 & 22

45) A tin of biscuits has a mass of 1243g. When it is half full, its mass is 728g. What is the 

mass of the tin when it is empty?


22) Rebecca bought 4 bottles of soft drink. Each bottle $1.65 and contained 1.25l of soft 

drink. (a)How many times of soft drink did she buy?

(b) If she paid the cashier $10, how much change did she receive? 

6th September - Problem no. 41

2 cameras and 5 handphones cost $2700 altogether. If a camera costs twice as much a a 

handphone, what is the total cost of 1 camera and 1 handphone?


5th September - Problem no. 23

In a class, one third of the pupils belong to a group called Jupiter House. Two-

ninth of the pupils belong to Venus house and the remaining 16 pupils belong to 

Saturn house. How many pupils are there in the class?

4th September - Problem no. 44

A florist used 240 red, white and yellow roses at a flower show. She used 30 more red 

roses than white roses. She used the same number of yellow roses and red roses. How 

many red roses did she use?

Jet wants to buy a digital camera which costs $983 and a printer which costs $275. He 

needs to withdraw some money from the ATM to pay for his purchases. If he can 

withdraw only multiples of $10, find the least amount of money he must withdraw from 

the ATM.

September Hols Homework....

Dear Children,

            Although I have given you the list of homework last Thursday, I would like to remind you what they are and state a few more things for you to take note. 

1) English - Revision Papers and Grammar worksheets

                - Revise all learning sheets in the file.

                 - Ensure all worksheets are signed and corrections are marked.

                 - Listening Comprehension book (Pg. 34 and 46) Picture description to be completed  

                   on foolscap paper, using the SPARES method taught. 

                 - Practice the conversation portion in the LC book with your parents (You will be 

                   tested when school reopens on a one-to-one basis). 


2) Math - Area & Perimeter worksheets, Workbook and Text book (All pages for Area & 

               Perimeter, including the problem sums inside the book).


             - Revise all worksheets and workbook papers in the file. 

             - Complete Problem Sums inside the problem sums book (questions to be copied from the    

                blog).

             - Ensure all papers are signed and corrections are marked.


Science - Revise all papers in the file. 

            - Practice MCQ at home.

            - Learn all spelling words from the whole year's spelling list.

            - Revise Heat & Temperature from the Energy textbook.

            - Go to Knowledge Forum to post your theories on the topic"Light'.

2) I have 23 conis. Some are 10 cents and the others are 20 cents. I have more 10 cents conins than 20 cents coins. The total value of the coins is $3.40. How many 10 cents coins do I have?


3) Faiez bought a total of 12 pens and pencils. The pens cost $2 each and the pencils cost $1 each. If he spent a total of $20, how many pens did he buy?


4) There are a total of 16 bicycles and tricycles in a park. There are 36 wheels altogether. How many bicycles are there?

4) Chloe earns $1620 a month. She spends $200 on transport and $355 on food. She gives

    half of the remaining sum to her mother. How much money does her mother receive each

     month?



5) Mr Jonathan ordered 3 batches of biscuits, each weighing 3kg. He gave 350g  each to his

    12 colleagues. How many grams of biscuits had Mr Jonathan left? Leave your answer in kg

     and g.

(9 August) Revision on Skill Set 6 - Draw a Model / Diagram

1) A book has 1584 pages. Alden reads an equal number of pages every day. However, he

   does not read on Sundays. How many pages must he read every day in order to finish

   reading the books in 3 weeks?




2) Javier and Xavier had 1152 marbles altogether. After Javier gave 29 marbles to Xavier,

    Xavier had thrice as many marbles as Javier. How many more marbles did Xavier have than

    Javier at first?



3) On a trip to Sentosa, there were 6 times as many children as there were teachers. There

     were 602 people altogether. At lunch time, each child ate 2 sandwiches, while each teacher

     ate 4 sandwiches. How many more sandwiches did the children eat than the teachers?

(8 August) Revision on Skill Set 5 - Work Backwards

4) During a trip, Sherlyn spent one quater of her money on some clothes. She also spent one third of the 
   
    remaining money on a bag. She then bought a camera which cost $15 more than the bag and had $95 
  
    left. How much money did Sherlyn have at first?



5) A train carrying some passengers left Boon Lay. At Lakeside, 6 passengers boarded and 7 alighted. At
   
    Chinese Garden, half of the passengers alighted. At Jurong East, 5 passengers boarded and 8 alighted.  
   
    As the train left Jurong East, there were 28 passengers on the train. How many passengers were on the
   
    train when in left Boon Lay?

4) Shayn collected 50 more stamps than Sheryl. Jemima collected 20 fewer stamps than Shayn. If Sheryl collected 250 stamps, how many stamps did Shayn and Jemima collect altogther?

1) Justin, Xavier and Alden went on a trip together. Justin spent $1924 more than Xavier but $69 less than Alden. If Justin spent $3699, what was the total amount of money the three boys spent on the trip?


2) Suhana and Faiez had 45 stickers altogether. After Suhana gave Faiez 5 stickers, Faiez had 1 more sticker than Suhana. How many stickers did Suhana have at first?

4) A florist sold 24 red roses and twice as many pink roses on Saturday. She sold 36 pink roses and half as many red roses on Sunday. How many roses did the florist sell altogether over the weekend?



5) A piece of dough weighs 1.5kg. One third of it is saved for future use. The rest of it is used to make 20 equal pieces of pancakes. 1) A shopkeeper had 4985 pens and 16 207 pencils in his shop. He sold 2680 pens and 7986 pencils. He then threw away 16 faulty pens. What was the total number of pens and pencils left in the end?



2) A study desk cost $387 and a cupboard cost twice as much as the study desk. Sam bought 1 study desk and 2 cupboards. If he had $3000 at first, how much money would Sam have left?

26 July - Problem Sums

3) A sack contains 10kg of rice. A family uses 0.85kg of rice a day. How much rice is left in the sack after 7 days? Give your answer to the nearest kilogram.

4) 2kg of milk powder cost $13.70. Find the cost of 6kg of mik powder.

Rainbow Day 3...

Wow!!!Its been a blast! We did it children! Keep up the good work. I hope you guys enjoyed the time together and experienced how racial harmony is commemorated with togetherness amongst us! I sure enjoyed all the performances put up by the various classes.

Oh..let's not forget our two wonderful MC's for the day! We are so proud to announce that our Cheng Han and Jennifer were the MC's for the day! You did a great job children! We loved it!

Can heat be detected accurately with sense of touch?

We found the answer to the question with a simple hands-on activity. I got 4A children to test it out with warm, cold and tap water. They had to insert their hands into the different tubs of water simultaneously and then explain what they just felt. This got them to think about the use of thermometer in measuring heat. From there, I continued to teach more about the various thermometers and the right technique to read off temperature with the help of real thermometers and PPT slides.
